How much can I borrow through the Federal Direct Student Loan Program?

These are the annual loan limits:

First Year $5,500 $9,500
Second Year $6,500 $10,500
Third Year & Beyond $7,500 $12,500

Graduate and Professional Degree Students may borrow up to $20,500 each year.

The maximum loan amounts you may receive are:

  • Dependent students may borrow up to $31,000
  • Independent students may borrow up to $57,500
  • Students receiving graduate and professional degrees may borrow up to $138,500
